Felt like being silly

With the coming of the fifth generation in the main series, I once again begin to wonder why I keep playing these games. But despite this strip, I am of the opinion that the pokemon games don't have much room for variety in the plot and game mechanics, but instead compensate that with new species and even further complicated battle features.

And to avoid getting a staff of law employess in my living room, here's the original image of the pikachu with all the references conveniently put on it: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9541/pikachu1zcp1gl.jpg

Technically, 'til the credits roll, you won't be able to get familiar Pokemon in the new games.

March 7th, 2011, 2:12 pm

It is rather annoying to some degree that there's not really many changes between each new branch of the pokemon franchise...but to be frank, why risk making a big change when you know what works sells?

Its one of the reason's that Megaman hasn't really changed how things work in the game, or how Sonic or Kirby still have many of the same things their first ones ever had.

Now, if people suddenly got tired of "Gotta catch them all" and were of the opinion that each new generation of pokemon was looking more and more like retarded fish-bunnies (or something similar, no offense meant to retards, or fish bunnies.) then something may get changed, but as long as it sells, they'll keep going with what works.

This strip is poking just as much fun as the rest of the archive. Pokemon has been made great thanks to the mehcnaics we're now used to. Some more variety comes with each expansion, but at its very core, it's the same game we all cherish and like.

Although there are some elements I'd like them to tweak. Like some sort of bigger plot or story which isn't restricted by the usual fill the pokdex, save the world from organised crime and become champ in the end. Although I have yet to play Black or White, so my opinion has yet to be proven.

March 19th, 2011, 8:48 pm

I agree... but I have to say, the story for Black and White is much much better than the rest.
I'm pretty happy with it. Like, really really happy.

Oh yeah, definitly. Once you go through the initial reaction of how dumb some of the new desgins are, I found myself enjoying it to bits. Seriously, the game has three rivals! I couldn't be happier!

i believe the phrase is: "the more things change the more they stay the same"

Your comic sure is funny, but I have disagreement with your comment there. The part which you said that pokemon doesn't have room, mechanics nor potential to be expanded.
Pokemon DOES have many potential. It just game freak to afraid to make any changes to their formula or to lazy and afraid to create more developed spin-offs.

was he too hard to draw yourself???

January 9th, 2012, 8:07 am

Well, there ARE tonnes of Pokemon spin-off games. They'll keep making what people are buyin though. I'm just wondering when they'll run out of colours to name them after.

Pokemon Beige anyone?

February 5th, 2012, 12:09 am

Or pokémon chartreuse?

I lose how gen 5 completely defeated this argument, the story was so involved its incredible.
